LITERATURE - Maxim Gorky (Alexei Maximovich Peshkov) (Nizhny Novgorod, 1868 - Moscow, 1936) - Autograph lettered signed (A.Peskov)

Maxim Gorky (Alexei Maximovich Peshkov) (Nizhny Novgorod, 1868 - Moscow, 1936)

Autograph lettered signed (A.Peskov), dated March 3, 1924, by the Russian writer. No addressee [but to E. Woytinsky]. Interesting letter concerning Stefan Zweig's play translated by Gorky. After expressing his intention to offer the translation to "World Literature" and some Moscow publisher, Gorky discussed the possibility to stage the play (he is almost certainly referring to Zweig's dramatic poem "Jeremias", first performed in Zurich in 1917). He then mentions Romain Rolland, a close friend, Vladimir Savelevich, to whom he promises to send his new small book. At the end, he invites Woytinsky to translate for "Conversations" a novella by Zweig, Kaiser or some other young author. 1 p. In-4°, 36 lines. In Russian. Envelope with address included
