Follower of François de Troy, circa 1705 Portrait miniature of a nobleman, believed to be James Francis Edward Stuart (1688-1766), the 'Old Pretender', in armour oil on copper, oval 6.5cm Provenance: Elle Shushan, Philadelphia, from whom acquired in 2012, as 'French School, circa 1708', by the late Barry Lock (1934-2021) The pose of the sitter in the present miniature appears to derive from one of the portrait compositions conceived by François de Troy and his studio of the 'Old Pretender' circa 1705.
