An interesting Colt Model 1861 Special Musket with bayonet


dating: 1861 - 1865 provenance: USA, Round, rifled, 58 caliber (15 mm at the nozzle) with 40” barrel, provided with foresight, adjustable rear sight in three heights with foldaway sight leaf, octagonal breech with stamps 'M.L.H', 'V' and 'P' surmounting an eagle's head, date '1863'. American eagle marked on the bolster. Complete mark of the company and date '1863' on the lock. Working mechanic. Walnut full stock, with stamps on the left side and remains of number on the butt-side. Iron mounts. 'US' mark on the butt-plate. Three bands marked with 'U'. Iron ramrod. Some pitting and signs of use on the external, iron surfaces. Later strap, well manufactured. With socket bayonet marked 'US' and provided with leather scabbard.
