Picturesque landscape of the Austrian Lake Faak with a view on the mountain Mittagskogel; the auction record for a landscape painting by the artist is around €18,000
This picturesque depiction of Lake Faak was created by the Austrian painter Jakob Canziani. Lake Faak is located in Carinthia, in the south of Villach, where Canziani lived most of his life. The turquoise-blue water reflects the surrounding trees and in the background rises up the mountain massif of the Karawanks. In the foreground is a group of three women with a boat.Verso is an inscribed label. The painting is in very good condition with minimal framing marks, some small touch-ups in the clouds and the mountains, and a small retouching just above the figures, verso strengthened with a small patch. The painting is framed. The elaborately carved, gold painted wooden frame displays some repairs and small bumps. The stretcher measures 55.5 x 68.5 cm and the dimensions of the frame are 75 x 88 cm.Jakob Canziani (c. 1820-1891)
The Austrian landscape painter Jakob Canziani was born in around 1920 and died on July 26, 1891 in Villach. He received his training in Italy, but experienced the greatest inspiration in the succession of Marcus Pernhart.
