An important officers sabre of the revolution epoch
dating: late 18th Century provenance: France, Large, single-and-false-edged blade with wide central fuller and groove on the back, engraved at the base and gilded on a blue background with trophies and floral motifs, marked 'LIGER' on both side of the forte. Beautiful, gilded bronze hilt with valve pierced with rays, two soldiers are shaking hands between the five loop-guards, above a column with a book and Phrygian cap. Big pommel shaped as a lion's head and finely chiselled, vertical grooves on the back. Grip covered with metal wire binding. Complete of leather scabbard with brass mounts with remains of gilding. A suspension ring, iron drag. Very rare. length 98 cm.
