BRUTTIUM. Lokroi Epizephyrioi. Circa 400-350 BC. Nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.81 g, 9 h). Laureate head of Zeus to left. Rev. Eagle standing left with spread wings, tearing at a dead hare held in its talons; in field to right, thunderbolt. Kraay & Hirmer 292 (same dies). McClean 1492 (same dies). SNG Lloyd 641 (same dies). Beautifully toned and with a fine Classical head of Zeus. Minor scratches and possible traces of overstriking, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
From the collection of W. Belser, Zürich, prior to 1965, and that of his son, acquired in the early 1970s.
