Liberty Half Eagles 1858 $5 MS60 NGC. A rare issue in all

Liberty Half Eagles
1858 $5 MS60 NGC. A rare issue in all grades and the first year in a twenty year run of scarce, low-mintage half eagles from the Philadelphia Mint. The mintage was only 15,136 pieces, and the 1858 is very elusive in any condition better than XF. In Mint State, this piece is in good company with only 24 other coins certified by both services in the various MS grades (not accounting for resubmissions). This is a sharply struck piece with bright, satiny fields that show numerous die striations. The most distinctive surface imperfections are a couple of contact marks on Liberty's cheek and jaw. An attractive, worthwhile addition for the gold specialist. Census: 3 in 60, 10 finer (4/17).
