A figure of the Virgin and Child, presumably Brabant, around 1450/60
Wood, carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. With older polychromy. Designed for a frontal viewpoint, the Virgin Mary is shown in slight contrapposto, holding the nude Christ Child over Her left hip. She wears a veil with a decorative clasp over Her head and a red gown that falls in gentle folds about Her body and forms a pleasant contrast to the richly draped golden cloak.
The Virgin's right hand and the right arm and left hand of the Child lost. Losses to the left side and wear throughout. Height 35 cm.
Wohl Brabant um 1450/1460, Madonna mit Kind
Holz, dreiviertelrund geschnitzt, auf der Rückseite abgeflacht. Ältere farbige Fassung. Auf frontale Ansicht gestaltete und in nur angedeutetem Kontrapost stehende Muttergottes, die das nackte Jesuskind mit ihrer linken Hand seitlich über ihrer Hüfte trägt. Maria trägt ein verschlungenes Kopftuch mit einer Agraffe und ein ruhig herabfallendes rotes Kleid, zu dem der vor dem Körper geraffte goldene Umhang in seiner Farbigkeit und in seinem reichen Faltenspiel effektvoll kontrastiert.
Rechte Hand der Maria sowie rechter Arm und linke Hand des Kindes verloren. Verlust an der Seite unten links, Bestoßungen. Höhe 35 cm.
