World
(1945-1946) Saudi Arabia, Ibn Saud, Gold 4 Pounds MS61 NGC. KM-34. The Philadelphia Mint struck 917 Fine gold coins for Saudi Arabia circa 1945 at the request of the Saudi government. The weight of KM-34 was 493.1 grains, equivalent to four British sovereigns. One pound coins (KM-35) were also produced. KM-34 and KM-35 were the first gold coins issued by the U.S. Mint since 1933, in an era when U.S. gold bullion ownership by private citizens was restricted. This sun-gold example is satiny and evenly struck. The broad fields exhibit marks consistent with the MS61 grade.
